American Airlines plane evacuated after catching fire

Passengers on an American Airlines flight were forced to evacuate onto the wing of their aircraft at Denver International Airport after an engine caught fire on the evening of March 13, sending thick black smoke into the air. American Airlines Flight 1006, a Boeing 737-800 traveling from Colorado Springs to Dallas-Fort Worth, was carrying 172 passengers and six crew members when it was diverted to Denver around 5:15 pm local time due to reported 'engine vibrations,' according to the Federal Aviation Administration. 'After landing and while taxiing to the gate, an engine caught fire,' the FAA stated. The incident is under investigation. Despite incidents like this, flying remains one of the safest modes of transportation. To back this up, Airline Ratings, the world’s sole website specializing in airline safety and product ratings, published a list showcasing the most recent data. In making its evaluation, Airline Ratings takes into account "a comprehensive range of factors that include serious incidents, recent fatal accidents, audits from aviation’s governing and industry bodies, profitability, industry-leading safety initiatives, expert pilot training assessment and fleet age."
